"Access 2002 Desktop Developer's Handbook" chapter 7 file - does not work w/A2003

I was wondering if i am the only one out there. (i found one posting on
this:
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...book"+chapter+7&rnum=1&hl=en#6304894308f427cb
)

I am trying to learn from the book and then use the file of chapter 7
and access shuts down when i start this file. i can't view anything in
Access 2003. when i use 2002 it runs fine. I am looking all over the
web for answers, i called the publisher and even tried to email Mr. Ken
Getz for an updated version or a fix to this issue. if anyone out there
can help me with this, i would greatly apprecate it.

what i am trying to accomplish is to learn the mulipik form.

Thanks,

Sam

Did you follow the various suggestions Allen made (especially the suggestion
to Decompile)?

Thanks Douglas for your time and your answer. Unfotunately, i wasn't
successful with the "dcompile" command. i got an error. i tried it many
times and it didn't work.

Klatuu > i would appreciate if you can explain to me what you have done
to make it work.

thanks,

This what i have. I have a file called "ch07.mdb" that is on the CD-Rom
that came with my textbook. I have two computers set up. one has
Microsoft Office 2002 (xp) and the other has 2003.

I tried running the command decompile from the command line for the
file ch07.mdb and i got an error on both computers.

i am not sure what i am doing wrong. i have never before used the
decompile command, but as far as i can tell it is not the command that
gives me an error. Microsoft access opens and then there is an error.
as far as i can tell, it is the file ch07.mdb that doesn't allow itself
to be decompiled.

thanks,

Sam

Thanks but that is not issue either. I am intending to use the module
in my other databases, so please understand that i have the basic
knowledge of Access.

Unfortunately, "i got an error" and "it didn't work" doesn't tell me
anything.

If you're still having problems after following Klatuu's advice, report back
with details of the error(s).

Ok, I will write down all the steps I have taken:

1. copied a clean copy of the file "ch07.mdb" onto my harddrive

2. right cliked on the file | properties | verified that the read only
box is unchecked.

3. opened the file and went to Tools | General | unchecked "Perform
name AutoCorrect"

4. clicked on Tools | Database Utilities | Compact and Repair Database
- was holding down shift while it was compacting

5. went to the command line (program | accessories | Command Prompt and
ran the following command: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office10\msaccess.exe" /decompile "C:\Documents and
Settings\Sam\Desktop\Ch07.mdb" (tried with and without holding shift
down)

6. got an error from Microsoft Access

on the details of the error I see the following: error signature
appname: msaccess.exe appVer: 10.0.6501.0 modName: vbe6.dll ModVer:
6.4.99.69 Offset: 000d9b59

and then I can click on the error report. It has machine language there
and I can't copy/paste it.

Please let me know what other details you would like to me add.

Thanks,

sam

Sounds as though your copy of ch07.mdb may be corrupted.

From where are you getting the "clean copy"?

Hi

I just copied it again from the disk that came with the textbook, and i
went throught all the steps and got the same error message.

Hi. I respond to every email I get. If you sent email to my correct
address, then it must have gotten caught up in some spam filter or
something somewhere. Send me an email at my mcwtech.com address, and
I'll be happy to send you a fixed copy. -- Ken
