Access 2002....error message.....

I created a table to inclues a field called documents.
I set it to OLE Object.
inserted an object (word document) by browsing to it, and displaying it as
an icon in the form I have created. When I double click the Icon the word
document opens as you would expect. The problem I get occurs when I close the
document and try to open it again...gettin the following error message.......
"A problem occured while MAIN MENU was communicating with the OLE server or
Active X control."
The only way out of this is to close the database via "Windows Task
Manager" (XP Pro).
Any help would be appreciated...

PS...can I ask why the "Notify me of replies" never works for me although I
do check the box? I always have to find the posting manually?
