I've searched for the solution to this issue for several months.
I have Win XP SP2, all updates have been done. All Office updates have
been done also. I have Office XP 2002.
The issue is that Access hangs occasionally when opening.
It happens about once per week, maybe twice. The rest of the time
it opens fine. When it hangs I have to end the process in task manager.
I found one suggestion that said it was hanging on the workgroup
file and that was making it hang and that a new file should be created and
then Join that workgroup. It also stated that the MDW file might be corrupted.
So I created a new workgroup file, joined the workgroup and then did a
search for system.mdw files on my pc. Sure enough, there were about 50 of
them. system1.mdw, system2.mdw, etc. I deleted all of them. I even used a
command line switch in my desktop shortcut specifying the workgroup file to
use.
"C:\Documents and Settings\default\My Documents\Bills Database\Monthly
Planner.mdb" /wrkgrp C:\Documents and Settings\default\My Documents\Bills
Database\MonthlyPlannerWGP.mdw
These changes did not resolve my issue. Access still hangs occasionally and
when it does there is a new system.mdw file created.
Is there a solution to this issue or is this just a known issue of Access
that cannot be resolved?
