Access 2002 Project / SQL Server problem

I am converting an Access 97 application to an Access 2002 project,
connected to an SQL Server database. I am trying to set the "Lookup"
properties in some of the columns in tables, i.e. get them to display like a
combo and show the descriptive value from a code table. When I open the
table in datasheet view, the column in question appears as a combo box, but
the list that drops down is empty. I have looked in the Northwind sample
database, and can see no difference between what I am doing and what is in
there.

Anybody know what is happening here? Is there a global database property I
have to set to enable this or something? This is so elementary, and is
driving me demented!

Tables are for storing data, not viewing or editing it. You view data in a
view, query, or preferably though a form where you can do full calculations
and enforce more complex rules. Proper SQL statements in a form's combo box
is the right way to do lookups. Have a look at:

Thanks Arvin, I stand admonished! I accept what you say in the link you
provided, but still don't understand why it works in the sample d/b, but not
in mine.
