Access 2003 cannot open Access 2000???

Having transferred a working Access mde file to a system using Access 2003,
the file is greyed-out and cannot be activated.

Can anyone please help?

Hi Arvin,

I am most grateful for your response and for your diagnosis of my problem.

I could install the mdb version but I'm concerned about its security, since
other people use that system.

Many thanks again.

Access 2003 can only open Access 2000 files if they are MDBs or
ADPs. It cannot open Access 2000 MDEs or ADEs because the code
base is different.

I thought it could *open* them, but it couldn't *write* an A2K MDE?

An Access 2000 MDE can be run just fine in either Access 2002 or 2003. You just
can't make a 2000 MDE with either one of them.

I distribute an Access 2000 MDE to LOTS of users with no run problems in either
of the two newer versions.

I guess I shouldn't tell you about the tool that allows Access 2003 to
create
Access 2000 MDE files. <g>

It might be a good idea to post the URL of their website.

Personally, I avoid working in Access 2000, but I do use the format. Since
we have every version from 1.0 on, it's never been an issue here.
