Access 2003 DB to Oracle 10g XE using OMWB

Hello!

Say, I have dropped this message in the Oracle messageboard and have not
heard back as of yet. So, I thought I would 'drop' it here and see what
answers I can get!

I want to 'migrate' an Access 2003 DB to the Oracle 10g XE DB. I have WIN
XP PRO SP2. I have downloaded the Oracle DB and installed it, okay. I have
downloaded the Oracle Migration Workbench file and installed it, okay. I
have downloaded the MSAccess.zip file and installed it as MSAccess.jar file
in the 'plugins' folder, okay. I have gone to the .bin folder and have run
the omwb.bin file, okay. The screen has come up with the 'default
repository' and 'Oracle Database Repository' selections on it, okay. I
'selected' the 'Oracle Database Respository' and filled in the information,
okay. But when I 'click' OK on this screen, I get the error 'Plugins not
installed' message. The only thing I can come up with is that the .bin
program is 'looking' for the MDAC 2.8 file and not finding it in the
'drivers' folder.

So, do I need to 'copy&paste' the 'Access-to-Oracle' driver into this
folder?? If so, since I'm a 'newbie' here, where do I find this 'driver'
file??

What ms-access zip file you talking about? Are you talking about a data
file?
What msaccess zip file you talking about? I not aware of some msacces.zip
file that
you need to download? I much doubt it needs to be a zip, or jar. What about
opening
up this file, and extracting the files inside? Can't say I know anything
about this file
but I can say that 99% of the time, as a zip, or jar archive, it is going to
be useless.
So, any particular reason why the zip (or jar) archive file is not opened
up, and the
files inside extracted?

I would assume that your oracle tools are installed correct. Can you import
a standard
text file into oracle? (if you can't do that, then likely you need to go
back to the oracle
group and ask how to do that, can't help you here). The standard oracle
import tools
should handle mdb and text files.

Regardless, can you use a standard text import? If yes, ten consider just
exporting the
data from the mdb file you have (you do have a mdb file here...right?).

Since this is a ms-access group, then oracle specific questions are not
going to bring you
much luck, but you MOST certainly can have the mdb (ms-access) data exported
to a text
file (from ms-access). At the next point, you are in oracle land, but should
with ease be
able to import the csv file that you created from ms-access. (if someone is
sending you
the ms-access file, then perhaps they can export the data to excel, or a csv
text file
as mentioned, and this would eliminate your ms-access side of things).
This text file idea is workable, but really depends on how many tables of
ms-access
data you have in the mdb file(s).

So, I would consider testing, and trying a few simple text imports into
oracle. If they
work, then have the ms-access data exported (converted) to a text file by
the
ms-access user.

And, if you can't import text files into oracle, you have to go
back to the oracle group and ask how to solve that simple problem.
