Access 2003 form linked to a query

I have a situation where there is a query (two tables joined) that is a
record source for a form. If I run the query it will let me modifiy the
records. If I run it again it will not. This will happen again and again. It
works and then it doesn't work. Keep in mind I am closing the query and then
reopening the query using the X on the top right. Going back and forth from
design view and then running it doesn't work at all. From the form I can't
edit the records at all. This database was created a number of years ago with
Access 2000 then we went to Access 2003. It has been running successfully
until a couple of weeks ago. I thought that maybe it was a SP upgrade, but my
IT person tells me that the latest fixes have been installed. I am running
OFFICE 2003 SP3. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That was the first thing I thought that may have occurred, so I rebuilt it.
Still the same issue. Thank you for your thoughts.

as the title of your subject is about a "form linked to query"; then to
clarify: are you dealing purely with the query itself? no form involved??

that's what I would do first....deal purely with the query and get its
behavior working correctly....then you know it is a form parameter....

The form does not work at all in the sense that it will not allow any
modifications to records. No form properties are set to prevent this.
(Note: This database was originally created in ACCESS 2000 and has been
working for a couple of years with ACCESS 2003.) I then went to the query
that is the record source to the form and when I run the query by double
clicking on it and try to modify a record, it will work, then if I close the
query(X) and reopen it by double clicking to run it will NOT allow
modifications. When I go from design view and try to run it, It never works.
I have tried recreating the query and that did not solve the problem. I
compacted and repaired with no change. I created a new database and imported
everything and still the same issue. This was all done yesterday in a
network environment as well with a copy of the database on my hard drive,
thus eliminating a possible network situation. There was no difference.
First thing this morning, the original copy of the database on the network
now works. Go figure. I had the user open and close the form and database
several times to see if anything changed. At this point in time everything
seems to be working again. I know we had a situation with OFFICE 2003 about
2 weeks ago and had to install a hotfix that we did NOT have. According to
"Check for Updates", everything is current on our systems. Don't know what
to look for if it happens again. I do thank you for all input. Will post
again if we start to get the same issue again.
