i have microsoft home and student 2003 which does not include access 2003.
where can i purchase an economical access 2003 to add to my pc?

It's probably cheaper to upgrade your copy of Office 2003 to Office 2007
Professional. Search Microsoft's web site for Office 2007 and upgrade paths.

Just checked eBay, and there are several copies of Access 2003 or Office Pro
2003 available at varying prices... I believe the least expensive was an
Academic edition, for which you must be a student or teacher at an
authorized/qualified academic institutio to legally use. If you buy software
from eBay, you need to be careful to buy software that can be activated...
either new, or second purchaser (and, in this case, I've seen the suggestion
that you get the product key from the seller and check with Microsoft that
it can be activated before you purchase). Surprisingly, I see some "full
retail" Office Pro 2003 advertised at a lower Buy It Now price than other
"retail" Access 2003 listings.

I do not advise "upgrading" to Office 2007. It would be better, I suspect,
to download the public beta of Office 2010 -- which seems to have some fixes
to Office 2007 problems, some improvements in "regular Access" features, and
enhancements in Web Apps using Access with SharePoint. Also, from what I
hear, it is solid and stable for a beta test product.

The above text indicates "any 2000–2007 Microsoft Office program or suite".
As I read this, it does not disallow the Home and Student edition. Now,
granted, the $329.95 upgrade price may not be so easy to swallow, but that's
a different issue. It looks like one could get Office Access 2007 by itself,
for an upgrade price of $109.95:

Office Access 2007
$229/$109.95

Microsoft Access 2000–2002; Microsoft Office Access 2003; Microsoft Works

Tom,

Yes, it say upgrage not applicable AND I tried on Home and Student 2003.
Which is why I vowed never to buy that edition again. That could have been
then and this is now and in that case I would suggest a phone call is in
order to check/confirm.

Professional"?

Calling in advance would certainly be a prudent step. I seem to have the
same memory of no reduced-price upgrade path for Home and Student users from
years past. But me thinks that has changed. I'm not positive, but the upgrade
path I quoted in my message from yesterday certainly seems to indicate so. If
not, then Microsoft needs to hire better writers for their web page content!

The way I read the OP post was that they were hoping to get the upgrade
version of Access because they thought they had a qualifying product.
Unfortunately, for them their version is not a qualifying product. Other
editions of Office are qualifying products so that would not be an issue.

However, David just posted a link that says there will be no upgrade pricing
for Office 2010. So if you have a qualifying product and are low on funds
then might pay to upgrade to Office 2007... At least you will only be one
version back AND since product support for Office 2003 won't last forever,
you don't want to be the cold with no coat!

I guess we'll never know. You say it is not a qualifying product. I
disagree, based on the statement I quoted earlier, repeated below:

To me, the above statement includes the individual programs in the Home and
Student suite, along with the suite itself. There is some hungry lawyer
somewhere who would have filed a class action lawsuit by now, if folks were
getting denied the upgrade pricing to 2007, because they only have the Home
and Student suite. Wanna bet a beer (or glass of wine) on who is right?

I went and checked the Home Student Office site but I see your point.
Perhaps that statement should be modified because I can see how it lead on
to believe it is a qualifying product. SO they run to the store open the
box and oops, can't install. I will take that bet! (You will find I only
