Access 2003 SP2 and SP3

Since installing Office 2003 SP2 and or SP3 I can no longer see items in a
list box on a form. The names are there and can be select but not scene. If I
uninstall SP2 or SP3 and open the form I can see the names.

Quite likely your answer is here:

Barry,
this might be the caue.

"Combo box controls and list box controls display no value or
incorrect values in Access 2003 after you install Office 2003 Service
Pack 3." And a few more problems SP3 introduced.

Description of the Access 2003 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package:
December 18, 2007 - 945674

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945674
If the field to which the combo box is bound has a Format property setting
for the field in the table, then yes, this is a bug that has been reported
by many ACCESS users during past weeks. It apparently is a bug in Office
2003 SP3, which was released by MS a short time ago. MS is aware of the
bug and is working on how to fix it.

In the meantime, the "complete workaround" is to remove the Format
property's value from the field's properties in the table's design view

I have downloaded and extracted this hotfix 945674, however I do not know
what to do with these files. How do I install this hotfix?

It's been a while since I installed it, and I'm not entirely sure I
remember all the steps exactly; but here's what I recall:

After you download, you should have:

File name File version File size Date Time
Office2003-kb945674-glb.exe 11.0.8204.0 3,998,776 22-Dec-2007
12:57

When you execute (double click) the above .exe you should have:

Microsoft Windows Installer .msp file information
File name File size Date Time
Msaccess.msp 88,160,768 18-Dec-2007 17:16

Double click on Msaccess.msp and the hotfix should auto-magically
install itself.

At least, that's the way I remember it. (The file names I copied here
are from the KB article link in this thread.)

When I double-click on the .msp file, I get a popup window that says:

"Windows cannot open this file: MSACCESS.msp
To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows
can go onine to look it up automatically or you can manually select from a
list of programs on your computer."

When I allow Windows to go online to look, it says "no results found".

I'm getting in over my head here. If you get no other responses to this
thread, try re-posting with a new subject line that mentions trouble
installing the SP3 Hotfix.

In the meantime, it sounds to me like you are having trouble with the
Windows Installer -- this KB link may be of some help to you:

Do you have Windows Support people in your organization that you can go
to for help with Windows (as distinct from Access?)

Our support people where hoping I would find an answer.
Their only alternative was to uninstall 2003 and reinstall Office 2002.

I guess they will have to because I refuse to rewrite all those databases.

It does sound like a windows support issue to me ... and since it looks
like no-one else is going to jump in on this thread I'd suggest that you
try posting under a thread that mentions having problems with Windows
Installer.

I've seen a lot of discussion about getting patches correctly installed,
so I know there are knowledgeable folks out there.

You might get a wider audience if you post in the
microsoft.public.access NG.

Sorry I can't help more.
