Access 2007 and Snapshot Viewer

Is Snapshot Viewer going to be available with Access 2007? Is it currently
available with Access 2007?

Apparently, what's supposed to happen is that when you double-click a .snp
file you'll be prompted to download the viewer if it is not installed. I'm
not sure whether this feature is working or not in Beta 2 TR and I'm not in
a position to test it right now, but it should work that way in the final
release, if not before.

One of my Access 2003 users recently installed the beta and has been unable
to get Snapshot up and going. The techie over there said something like 'it
doesn't work with ODBC'. We use snaps for many reports and I was hoping I
wouldn't have to convert everything to pdf...at least not right away.
Also....I wanted the tech staff to know that they should not convert all
users to 2007 without realizing that Snapshot isn't in place with it....as of
yet.

I can't see how there's any connection between the Snapshot Viewer and ODBC,
since the Snapshot Viewer doesn't connect to databases at all.

I'll drive over there and try installing Snapshot myself...see exactly what
is going on.

yeah; I would reccomend just moving to PDF.

Microsoft has demonstrated a long-standing ineptitude in portable
documents.. changing us from SNP to MDI to PDF to XPS in the past
decade?

Acrobat obviously has the market; and MS can't compete.

I hate Acrobat though.. I just wish that someone somewhere could teach
them how to build real-world apps


I mean; do i really need to get prompted 20 times on each desktop about
rebooting and installing updates?

I found out that my user's pc had been replaced with a new one and they
loaded 2003 on it. Unfortunately, I cannot, therefore, find out what the
problem was. However, I'm hoping someone will clarify whether or not
snapshot will work with the current 2007.

The snapshot viewer is an independant executable that can be used to view files
having the SNP file extension. What version of Access is installed is
irrelevant to being able to *view* snapshot files with the viewer. In fact the
Snapshot viewer will work on a PC that doesn't have Access installed at all.

Now, the 2007 beta might very well have an issue when *creating* snapshot files
such that they cannot be properly viewed with the viewer and I suppose it's
possible that installing the beta could have messed up a dll or other support
file that the snapshot viewer happens to depend on. Otherwise I fail to see how
it could make any difference.
