Access 2007 check file format of open database

Sally Green

In Access 2007 I can't find where the current file format is displayed. ie
if it the file is .mdb is it 2000 file format or 2002/2003 file format. In
Access 2003 and previous the file format used to be displayed on the title
bar of the database window.

I know this is a simple question but I've spent hours looking for it and
searching help screens!

It does matter to me because I receive databases from many clients and need
to know what file format they are currently using and whether I could upgrade
them depending on usage within the company.

The German version shows the file format in the title bar of the
application window.

Hi André and Sally,

Any chance that you are using Vista? I also cannot see the file version
information on a new laptop with Vista / Access 2007 installed. Hopefully the
code that Allen Browne just provided in his reply will be helpful to you.

André: Any chance that you are *not* using Vista as your operating system?

Windows XP, Access 2007: title bar shows file format.
Windows Vista, Access 2007: title bar shows file format, too.

Sally: Is it possible that you entered an application title in the
access options? In this case the title bar will only show this title.

Otherwise you should consider changing to a German system ... ;-)))

Bye

Thanks André, Tom and Allen for your replies. I had better brush up on my
German! I am using Vista and Office 2007 on a new laptop, and a legitimate
copy of Office. My application title bar just shows 'Microsoft Access'.
Restored or Maximised window makes no difference.

I'm not using an Application Title for these databases. The Application
Title field is blank in the Access Options for the current database.

I'll give Allens code a go but it's still a puzzle.

Cheers
Sally

OK I have a solution and thought you might want to know.
If I go into Office button / Access Options / Current Database and make no
changes but click OK to exit out (I would normally click Cancel), the
application title bar then shows the database name and file format. However,
as soon as I open any object it disappears again and only display 'Microsoft
Access'. But will redisplay if I go through the above process again every
time until I start using the database.

These two databases that I've been working on both have Switchboards that
open with the AutoExec macro. I don't know if that makes the difference.
One of the databases is stand alone the other is a front end mdb linked to
the back end mdb.

Thanks for your help guys.

Sally
