Access 2007 - not recognising dates under "last" in a query

I have a query set up to identify the last date of attendance for
individuals. For some reason, it is not recognising any entries after
09/09/09 and before 04/10/09.

Last does not mean Latest. Use MAX to get the latest date, not LAST.

LAST refers to the last record seen, for the given group, at execution time,
which is not necessary the lastly appended record, in historical time.
