Access 2007 Pass-Through Query problem

My problem is this:
I have an Access 2007 database (converted to *.accdb from an XP database) on
a virtual terminal server machine. It uses third party software to
communicate with Access and ISAM files. I can link to the tables using a
Machine Source (client) ODBC driver, successfully – I see data. There are
several pass-through queries that need this ODBC connection to join more than
one table for subset results. If I just click on the pass-through query to
open it, I get the error message "ODBC--call failed. ... function sequence
error (#0)" If I go to the query’s design, open the property page and select
the ODBC connection (as if creating it for the first time), and then ask to
view the data, it works. However, if I then save and close the query and
then try to reopen it without using the property sheet, I get the ODBC error.

I have researched the issue in Microsoft and other web sites. I was hearing
things like … reestablish the links. I did this once and it worked multiple
times on the same query until I closed the database and reopened it. Then
the original behavior resumed.

Upon Microsoft web site suggestions, I have set the Sandbox registry
settings to 0, eliminated the Auto Correct Options, modified ODBC refresh
times, set trusted locations to everywhere it seems. Does anyone have
solutions that work?
