Access 2007- split database breaks after several uses

I have a split database used over the network for data entry into a
table for a report that is run from the backend. After several uses
it will break- the error reads something like "MS Access caused a
serious error the last time it was open".

I then paste a backup copy over the front end and it works again.
There is no VBA in this one- I built it to replace one that broke the
same way that used a lot of VBA for validation.

What OS on frontend computers and backend server?

The OS on the frontend is Windows Vista Enterprise. . Windows Server
2003 R2 on the backend

Does each user have their own copy of the FE? If not that is your
problem.

The FE is downloaded to the client from the intranet each time. I'm
not understanding why that would be different than having the FE saved
to the client.

Actually when I think about this it sounds like A2007 crashed once
leaving the Access MDB/MDE in a weird stated. Then the user runs the
MDB and gets this message.

Although the end result is the same as far as you are concerned. Is
A2007 SP1 installed?

It shouldn't be different. How is the FE being downloaded though?

Can you actually see the FE on the client hard drive along with the
ldb file?

Could this be related to Vista shadow copy? I remember reading about a
problem with Access and Shadow copy but can't find it now.

Of the front end or the back end?

If the latter, that's not a likely problem.

If the former, then it's pilot error -- you should never ever under
any circumstances have multiple users opening a front end.

Just don't do it.

It is the source of a huge number of problems that are so very
easily avoided that I just don't understand why anyone at all would
ever contemplate such an unreliable scenario for a production
application (or any application, for that matter).
