i've added audit trails to my form using the ms guidance here:

However, is it possible to keep the audit trails running in the
background without having to display the updates field on the form?

As long as the fields are in the form's RecordSource, they don't actually
need to be on the form.

"NOTE: The Updates field has an entry that shows the change that you made to
the Company Name field. You can also hide the Updates field if you do not
want to see the Updates field on the form."

I know that you can hide the field from the form. However, when I go
to look at the Updates field in the table, it is always blank. Is
there a way to view the contents of the Updates field at a table level?

If the field is empty in the table, then your application is not properly
updating it.
