Access 97 Compact Database

Hey,

I work maintaining a school's computer system, in
particular the access 97 database. Our database is very
large (approx 650 mb) and would benefit greatly from
compacting. However, every time I try to run the compact
utility I recieve a message saying "The Microsoft Jet
database engine stopped the process because you and
another user are attempting to change the same data at the
same time." The thing is, this happens when I am running
a self-contained test copy of the database, sometimes with
my network cable physically removed from my machine, so
there shouldn't be any other users trying to access the
data. What else could be causing this error message? Any
help would be appreciated!

Sign of corruption. Try importing into a new MDB. Or running
JetComp. See the Corruptions FAQ page at my website.

Importing everything into a new MDB seems to work. Thanks
for your help, and for letting me know that there might be
some corruption going on! I'll have to look into that...
