Access 97 Crashes

Hi, I am starting to learn Access. I have an Office 97 Pro with Access on it
so I installed and tried to use. Program starts up but as soon as I try to
create a data base I get "Program has encountered a problem and has to shut
down" message. Error reporting does not get any results. Tried
uninstall/install, no luck. Running XP with SP2; any suggestions??
