access 97 - field value based on other fields

I have a form with a number of fields, as well as one field
"Proceed?" (Y/N).

What I need the form to do is......

only allow the proceed field to show "Y" when there are entries in
particular fields. If one of the fields does not have an entry, then
Proceed will show "N".

Any ideas how I could code the form to show the correct value in the
Proceed field? My next step after this is to enable/disable a button
on the form based upon the value in the Proceed field.
