Access 97 install problem

I just purchased a new HP NX9600 laptop. I tried to install Access 97 from
disks on the computer and it just froze. I then copied all of the disks to a
flash drive. From the flash drive I could install Access 97 on the laptop but
when I tried to start it up I received an Out of Memory message. HP told me
it was the jet engine. However it doesn't look like that is the problem to
me. Perhaps I am wrong. The Jet Engine installed is 4.0.8618.0. Any help
would be greatly appreciated as the Fortune 50 company I work for still has
Access 97 as their standard.

The version 4 of Jet you are seeing is from some MDAC version you have
installed. Access 97 uses either Jet 3.5 or 3.51 and Jet 3.5 had a bug that
produced the out of memory error on machines with 1 GB of ram or more. If
you install the updates for Jet 3.5 to bring it up to 3.51 it should fix it.
