Access 97: invalid procedure call or argument using linked table manager

J

Joe at NC State

When trying to use the linked table manager in an Access 97 database, I
get an invalid procedure call or argument error. The error persists
even after compacting and repairing the database. I saw a post in this
group dated May 2004 for someone with a similar problem -- the solution
suggested trying to compile all modules. I tried that and I'm still
getting the same error.

I even looked this up at Microsoft's support webside (KB article #
172347), which says this is caused by having at least one table linked
to a File DSN. However, that is not the case with this database; all
tables are linked using system DSN's (which is how we always link
tables).

Whatever help or advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

* Have you checked and tested the DSN?
* Have you tried a new database file on the same PC using Linked Table
Manager and the same DSN?
* Have you tried setting up DSN on a different computer and then Linked
Table Manager on the same existing MDB file?

What you should do next depends on what happened on the above. The problem
may be in the DSN (including permissions to the Back-End data) or Front-End
database file (corruptions?) or your particular Access installation
(corruptions).
