I'm getting a "not a valid file" error when I trying
opening my database.
My os is XP pro.
I have a Access 97 database that I must use.
A friend "looked" in the source code, never altered it,
and since then It will not open.
I do have Office XP also.

Your friend may have corrupted the database when he/she looked in the source
code or used a later version and converted it rather than just opened it.
Open Access 97, but not the database. On the menu select Tools | Database
utilities | and select Compact and Repair and then select your database. See
if it will compact and repair. Warning: make a copy first. If this doesn't
work perhaps your friend can explain the exact steps they took to look at
your source.
