Access 97 security

Mark

An employee tried to set up security on a database.
However he gave up. After accessing the database in
exclusive mode to remove the database password he found
that Access is now requesting a user and password before
you select the required database. No matter what we enter
we are now locked out of all our databases.

Any suggestions please

It depends on whether he created a new workgroup file, or messed up the
default system.mdw workgroup.

I would do a search of the computer for *.mdw files.

Access uses one called system.mdw (located in the systems folder) for every
session. It silently logs you in as the 'Admin' user using this workgroup.
The login prompt will appear if a password has been set for the Admin user.

Use Start, Run, wrkgadm.exe to see which workgroup you are currently joined
to by default.

If it is C:\windows\system\system.mdw (depending on OS), then I'd just copy
a system.mdw file from another computer.

If it is not that workgroup, then use Join to rejoin the system.mdw.
