Access 97 Unrecognised DB Format

It sounds to me as if your database has some coding errors. Perhaps get a
local Access person to come & take a look at it?

As for data entry, remember you can lose your data at any time, without
warning, for various reasons - eg. hard disk crashes. So it is essential to
take a regular backup copy of your database. If you do not want to risk
losing 1 day's work, take a backup every day. If you could afford to lose 1
week's work, take the backup every week, & so on.

Hi,

I currently use a database specific to my industy, but
based on Access 97 format. When entering details, my
screen froze and I had to reset my computer (this happens
quite often with this database).

However, when I started again, I can get into the Main Menu
of the Database (note: it says #error at the beginning),
but when I try to enter any details it says that it is an
"unrecognised database format". I have tried to repair and
relink the table that has the problems, but that doesn't
work either.

Other error messages I have got are:

"error trying to change setting 438 - object doesn't
support this property or method"
and
"error 3343".

I have already spent 13 hours entering data, which I don't
want to have to repeat. The gentleman who wrote this
database passed away last week, so I can't get any help
from him either.

Look forward to a response,

Regards,

Unfortunately this is a VERY good way to cause irreversible
corruption, destroying your database... :-{(

Is this a split database? (you say "relink" which suggests that you
have a "frontend" with the application and a "backend" with the
tables). If so, can you open the backend? Are your tables still
intact? You may need to simply restore a copy of the frontend (which
has no data, just forms and reports and code).

If not... I fear that your database is in fact corrupted. See Tony
Toews' website

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm

and try the suggestions there. As TC says, backups are absolutely
essential - especially in an environment where your database
frequently locks up!

Good luck, and I'm sorry you're having such trouble with it!
