access 97 vs access 2000

my office still runs access 97 and will for the forseeable
future. i am a self taught user ( an advanced beginner- i
would say) in search of formal training. access 97
classes are few and far between. a couple of questions:

1. any ideas where to get '97 training on long island, ny
(NYC -OK too)?

2. is access 2000 similar enough (classes easy to find),
such that i'm better off taking those courses.

your experiences and guidance is appreciated!!

As far as the Access User Interface is concerned, the two are not really all
that different. A few changes here and there, but you will be able to use
99% of all you learn in an A2K class to A97 -- EXCEPT-- coding. By default,
A2K uses ADO (ActiveX Data Objects) to manipulate the database in code.
Access97 uses DAO (Data Access Objects) to do the same thing. The two
object models are similar in some ways and very different in others. Now
you CAN use DAO in Access 2000 (I do all the time), but an Access 2000 class
will probably teach ADO which will not work in Access 97.

you CAN use DAO in Access 2000 (I do all the time), but an Access

And you CAN use ADO and many other COM objects in Access 97 - you
just add the ADO/whatever reference.
