Access a file hidden in an open xml document

Is it possible to put any binary file (e.g. an image) into the folder
structure of a Microsoft Office 2007 Open XML Document (pptx, docx,
xlsx)? Of course the document file itself should still work as one would
expect.

Whatever I tried, it always resulted in a message saying "The file is
corrupt and cannot be opened".

Furthermore I would like to access the "hidden" image file using some
VBA code (e.g. copy it into a local folder). Are there any chances to do
this?
