ACCESS ADP/MSDE Connection Failure

Had a virus a couple of weeks ago and had to recreate many
things. Reloading ACCESS 2000 was one of them. Had been
using MSDE prior with no problems. Was able to save the
SQl data files before the reload. After reloading the
MSDE and ACCESS 2000 I cannot seem to get to any of the
SQL databases. I can see all the stuff in the ADP files
(forms, etc.) but cannot see the SQL parts (ie. tables,
sp's, etc.). I keep getting 'TEST CONNECTION FAILED ...'
when using the TEST CONNECTION button. This is true even
for the Northwinds files. I've tried lots of things with
no help. Please help!

Can you see the tables in the MSDE using the SQL interface?
do you have the same login (password) to the MSDE as before?
Login have a ID that is would be changed.
it may require you to deleted the log in the ADP then relogin

I must appologize - I am pretty much a newbie to MSDE and
its related security ...

How do I see the tables using the SQL interface?

I'm pretty generic - I am using the SA login with blank
password.

Is it the LOG file of the ADP I need to delete? then
relogin?

I can see database files like 'master', but any 'user'
ones like my own or NORTHWINDS - I cannot?

I am not sure what they call the SQL interface on MSDE, I believe it SQL
Server Manager, or SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
If you can see the master then you are atleast partway there.
It just occurred to me that you may have re-installed MSDE but did not
exported the DB's, before you did this.
lets start with step 1

Here is the problem. when you created the dB originally, they were give ID
in the SQL Server. these ID are in the DB. If the ID's in the new database
do not match the ID from the old DB then you will not be able to load the DB
on to the MSDE Server. This is a security feature so someone can not take
the DB and put it on another server, easily.

if you don't have this information you may need to start over. The only
other course I know is to get the ID from the DB. This takes
advanced-advance knowledge. It also is beyond the scope of my post.

I will look into the database ID further. That certainly
sounds like a good place to start. I thought I could just
copy the files back into a new rebuilt instance of MSDE.
If that's not the case then this could surely be the
problem. Thanks for pointing me in a new/better

if you can determine the ID in the DB then you can create a new db, with the
same name, in the msde then replace the Datafiles with the original and put
the original ID in the MSDE tables
The trick is getting the ID from the DB data tables.
