Access behaviour when near 2GB Limitation?

S

Steeve Richard

Hi all,

Does anyone know how Access reacts when it reaches the 2GB
limit while it has a lot of unused space within the mdb?

The reason I'm asking is that when I run my process
consisting of dozens of queries, Access sometimes bloats
the the mdb size to approx. 1.8 GB, yet after compacting,
the file size reduces to approx 500MB. The bloating is
NOT due to the use of temporary tables from my part. This
tells me that Access needs a lot of working space during
the process execution and tends not to reuse the unused
space. If Access hits the 2GB limit while it has a lot of
unused space within the mdb, will it use the free space?
Or will it just abort because of the size limitation?

Thanks in advance.
Steeve
