Access databases with Business Object’s Dashboard and Data Integra

Perhaps I should cut to the chase and ask my question followed by a bit of
background.

Does anyone know if you can use an Access 2000 database with Business
Object’s Dashboard and Data Integrator?


Our company hosts several Microsoft Access databases used for tracking our
projects throughout the year. As data expands, manageability has become labor
intensive. We've been discussing for well over a year the prospects of using
a more user-friendly graphical interface with the help of a web application
know as Dashboard Manager (a component of Business Objects). Through careful
research, we have found that we need another component of the Business
Objects technology, Data Integrator. This would serve as the bridge for
joining all of our Access databases at the backend to the user-friendly
Dashboard at the front-end.


Here’s the question again (more expanded) : Does anyone know if you can use
an Access 2000 database as a data source for doing queries that would then
get packaged and formatted properly with the “Data Integrator†for delivery
to the Dashboard graphical environment?


We have read (or so it has been implied) that Access has to be converted to
a true Microsoft SQL Server in order to take advantage of the technology. Is
that true and how easy would this be to achieve if possible?

I can't answer your question specifically but I can suggest that it is
pretty easy to "upsize" your existing .mdb to link to SQL Server tables
rather than Jet tables. I presume that that would solve your problem. you
can keep your current application working against the SQL Server back end
plus add the BO functionality for reporting. Don't go the .adp route which
is considerably more work and .adp's will not necessarily be supported in
future versions of Access (past 2007).
