Access date datatype import data from Excel

P

Pegthad

We are trying to import data from an excel spreadsheet
into Access. We are having difficulty with a date field
from the Excel spreadsheet terminating the import with a
generic error message. I have tried several datatypes at
each end to make this work with no luck.

Can someone help us with this?

Thanks.

Would please tell us the generic error message you are getting and how your
date field is ordered, such as mm/dd/yyyy or other.

The generic error message is that an error occurred while
trying to import file. File was not imported. We took
part of the spreadsheet and the import worked great until
we reached the date field. We have used both date fields
as short dates 09/11/2004 and also as both text files.

Thanks for the response.

Hi -

This is Steven from Microsoft Access Technical Support replying to your
newsgroup post.

May I ask which version of Access you are using?

I believe that one or more of the Microsoft Office products had updates for
the Excel ISAM driver. If you tell me which version of Access you are
using, I can check to see if a driver update will be available for you. If
so, it may help you to get around the import issue that you face.

Otherwise, I would make absolutely sure that while in Access, that you
format the "Date" column to be a date/time format prior to performing the
import.
