Email Client: Exchange

Hi Guys,

First post, probably not the last hahah.

But anyway, have been using a PC with Outlook, and have just transferred over to a Mac with entourage...

Have set it up to access the Exchange server and all is working well while I'm connected at work, directly into the server... The problem is I want to really be able access the server while out of the office, not just IMAP, as I have problems with folders not showing up and also calendar issues...

Whats the best way to be able to directly access the exchange server while i am away from the office?? VPN?

And how do i set it up?? hahah

Any advice is greatly welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link Diane!

I got it working while I am in the office, but only when I had SSL unchecked.. When SSL is checked I cant connect, even when directly connected at work..

When using wireless with advised setup above I still cant access the server...

Is there other ways around this? I have done alittle reading on VPN, would that work??

Thanks again

If your Exchange server has OWA enabled, you'll probably be able to
access it from home using the OWA URL. See

instructions.

You have a few options.

First, Entourage can only use one address at a time. If you try to
change the address in your Exchange settings then this will clear the
cache and all your mail will sync again. That's not ideal for frequent use.

You can try always pointing Entourage to an Outlook Web Access (OWA)
server (those instructions you've seen for connecting from home) and see
if this works well from both work and home. If so, then that's the
solution. However, many folks report sluggish response while at work.

You can try using VPN, which means you'd have to have an Internet
connection and connect to work before you can use Entourage. That's not
ideal for quick access but it's not terrible either.

I have a script that will help you change your address automatically
from inside to outside and this does not empty your cache.

Or, if you're using Exchange Server 2007 at work then you might want to
wait for the release of Entourage for Exchange Web Services (due very
soon). It has a feature called AutoDiscover that will automatically
detect if your server has moved and redirect Entourage. I don't know if
this applies to connecting to an OWA server, though.

Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone for the advice, its been great to see..

At the moment i have set it up as per : <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/exchange/exchangeathome.html>

But am yet to test at work... about to leave..

The one problem I am having with the current setup is that, exchange is constantly checking for new mail in every folder i have set up. this cause a network progress to be running the entire time i have entourage running...
Is there way I can stop this and just get it to check for new messages in my inbox???

Also, would it be better to set up Parallels and just install Office on that??

Thanks again.

Entourage will sync all folders fully with Exchange. You cannot exclude
anything. You may be interested in also reading this:

That depends on whether or not you need the features offered by the
Windows version of Office. I doubt you'll much improvement in
performance with Outlook unless you set it to work online. That prevents
you from working offline if you need.

Hope this helps!
