I've run into a problem opening Access database files in a shared folder.
This problem began after installing Internet Explorer 7. I've posted on the
IE newsgroup (and saw a similar post there), but neither have been answered.
Since the problem only affects Access files, I'm now trying here.
The problem: Access files that can be opened if they are on a local drive
do not open when located on a shared folder. Oviously, this precludes using
Access over a peer to peer network.
When you try to open the file you get a security warning. If you try to
click past the warning you get a "Windows cannot open this file" message.
As an aside, these messages are the same as when you send a Access file as
an email attachment. Some browsers add a block to the file so they can't be
opened by the recipient. But you can unblock them by clicking on the file's
properties and selecting "unblock." This new IE7 problem doesn't have an
"unblock" opportunity, however.
I also got an error message when I tried to copy an Access file from a
shared folder on the network to a local drive. Windows wouldn't allow it.
When I uninstalled IE7 and went back to IE6, the problem went away.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Greg
