Access linked data

Hiya,

I have a database/s ( I never made them) that gets updated by an admin
weekly. I need to copy this to a PC that is on a boat and for the boat staff
to access it.

Basically it is two db's a front and backend, the backend residing on the
server, when I copy both db's to the boat pc (no network connectivity) and
open db (a) it tries to go looking for db (b) on the server and halts...I
need it to look at db (b) I have copied into the same folder.

I can use the linked table manager to get it to look in the right place ok
but I would prefer if it would automagically look in the local folder I
copied them too, so that the boat staff do not need to use the linked table
manager.

Hope that makes sense, any help appreciated.

Hi David,
I presume the database is on one pc and one pc only. Logon as administrator
and open the database window and go to tables. Each table that is linked to a
backend will have an arrow --> on the left side of the table name. Delete all
these tables from the front end - you may want to make a note of the table
names. Then go to File/Get External Data/Link Tables and browse to the
backend in the same directory, select all the tables you want to link to and
click the "Link" button.

Good Luck,
Barry

David,

Rather than delete the linked tables, just go to Tools, Database
Utilities and select the "Linked Table Manager" option. Use the
options in this wizard to relink the existing tables to the backend
file on that PC.
