access password

I recently started a new position with my company and
inherited a computer system and database which is locked
with a password. No one here knows the password and the
individual who established the database is not available
to request the password from him. I am not permitted to
overwrite the access database or just re-load microsoft
office. So how do I access this program without knowing
the password? Can this be done? Can I insert a new
password that will gain me acces to this database? HELP!!

Is it asking for a password, or a username and password?

If the former, and you are in Access 95 or 97, do an "all words" google
groups search on:

open close xor mdb

and you will probably find something.

If the latter, or you are in later versions of Access, the above suggestion
will not help.
