Upgrading the operating system would have no effect on Access security. Can
you be more specific - what are the error messages, what functionality is
lost?

More specific....

An Access front end in Office 2000 was created to add
students and construct classes in our SQL database.

When the front end is on a Winodws 2000 machine(with and
version of office), you can add, changed and deleta
classes and studetns as you are supposed to.

When you are on a Winodows XP machine, you lost all those
abilities.

I know the OS shouldn't make a diffence, but for some
reason in this case it does.

Is the Access database secured - i.e. require a username/password when you
open the database? If so, does the XP machine have the workgroup file, and
is the user opening the database using it?

Do users have full permissions on the folder where the mdb is?

The access front end accesses a SQL database..there is no
MDB. The front end is compied onto each persons desktop.

The database never asks fro username or password. I
assume it go it from teh log in.

That is correct. Ensure that the windows folder permissions on the XP
machine are correct - i.e. users need full permission.
