Access Runtime

I have used my client's licensed Access program to develop a database and
will need the full Access program to tweak things down the road. That
database, which resides on a desktop, will be split - frontend/backend. Other
computers will need the runtime version to connect with the database over the
network. There is no server. I have the Access 2003 Developer Extensions CD
and want to know
if, in the installation, I will have the option of installing only the
runtime and not packaging it with the database.

I hope that the above is clear enough; if not just ask for the missing info.
Any help given is greatly appreciated.

I have never tried installing the runtime without a package, but why would you?
You said you were planning to split the database. That is good. Now, what
you should do is install a copy of the front end on each user's computer. In
fact, in this case, it may be mandatory. The reason it might be is because
of how the front end links to the backend. I am not sure the linked paths
will work for all users in a peer to peer situation.
I haven't done it before, but I do see it as an issue you will have to
address because even if user B is running the the application and the mdb
file is on user A's computer, it is running in user B's computer and the
paths will be user B's paths, not A's.

I believe that at one time it was a violation of the license agreement to
not install an applicaton with the runtime. That might have changed for
2007 (since its free now), but I wouldn't be surprised if 2003 still had
that restriction.

would "the package" be the front end plus the runtime?

Where would I find out if that restriction exists? It should be, I would
think in an EULA but is there one for the Access extensions or would I have
to call Microsoft? I was encouraged by Tony's response that he does it all
the time, but maybe that was for 2007. If 2007 Extensions are free, can I
download and use them without using Access 2007?
