Access Shortcut

I am not able to open an Access 2000 database from a shortcut. When trying to
open a database from a shortcut, Access tries to locate/download something
from SR1 disc.

I am able to open the Access application and then open a database through
with Access.

I do not think having to install something from a disc is the answer. Any
answers or suggestions? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with Access 2000. I tried
installing/reinstalling Access 3-4 times but to no avail. Only
solution right now is to open the Access as a program and then open the
file.

I know there is a solution. This previously happened to me and I am not able
to remember what the solution was. I think I changed the default action from
open to something else for the .mdb file type (in Windows Explorer) and then
changed it back to open.

Me too! My problem runs even deeper. In a domain authenticated world, once
the application MDB is launched by the short-cut, the file access permissions
are (drastically) altered so that subsequent users are not permitted to
launch the application MDB. The current user has become the OWNER and the
AUTHENTICATED USERS permissions have been removed. I repeated this pattern 6
times. The short-cut has MSACCESS.EXE (full path) + space +
MyApplication.MDB + space + "/nostartup". I AM LOST!

This "came on suddenly" because about 15 computers were upgraded --
replacing Win98 with WinXP SP2 systems.

As to "... requesting disk ...", I solved that by launching Access under
(full) Administrator account, then when another account opens, which
establishes the usage profile, the update from Disk 2 works and that account
can now use MS Access.
