Access to network files should not be required to update Office p.

Access to original network installation files should not be required to
update Office programs. This is an extremely frustrating requirement for
users who manage their own updates, but need to locate the company computer
czar for access to the installation files which are stored in a secure site
on the network. This adds considerable time and frustration to the process
of keeping Office files updated (any installation process that requires 2
people, rather than 1 is unnecessary and abusive). A better solution would
be to allow the software update process to access the required files
automatically on a remote Microsoft site. Please think about the end-user!

Hello,
You don't mention which version of MS Office you are using on your Network.
The latest version of Office (Version 2003) has introduced a new system
called the 'Local Installation Source' which caches a copy of the
Installation files in a hidden folder on the HDD of the users computer. This
is then accessed by the Updates instead of asking for the original
Installation Files.

If you are using Office 2003 then you can download a tool from the following
MS Website to allow you to configure the Local Installation Source on each
computer on your network:
