Access to Project Plan

Is it possible to restrict project managers from opening a project plan
read/write if they are not the owner of the project?

We have a master project plan and the sub-projects are managed by different
project managers. When linking tasks between projects several of the project
managers feel the need to open all the project plans read/write. We have
tested and confirmed that this does not need to happen. They can have their
project plan open and then link to othe project plans without having them
checked out as read/write.

Therefore, I have been asked to find out if it is possible to restrict the
project managers from opening other project managers project plans read/write.

Is this possible and if so, what do I need to do to make this happen?

Thanks!

It's a security issue. Both MOPS03 and MOPS07 would have roughly the same
modifications - although I'd have to open a 2003 instance to recall the exact
mechanics.

In 2007:

For many companies, the PM's have access to their projects through the My
Projects or My Personal Project category, and access to other projects through
My Organizations.

I would make sure that My Personal Projects is set to allow read/write to
project owners - and ensure that My Organizations is only set to read permissions
(Save to Project Server should be deselected.)

Make sure to do this in a virtual environment and test thoroughly before
deploying. MS Project Server Experts have some pretty good FAQ's on this
sort of thing.

If you have a bit more of an involved security structure, then the actual
changes might be more complicated.
