Access to the cube of Portfolio Analyzer

P

Paulo

Hi,

Is it possible to give access to a user to the portifolio analyzer, that
means, to the cube, without add the user to the cube database role?

I will better explain the problem. In my organization only the users of the
project in the "Executives" group has access to the cube. The problem is when
I need to change the profile of a user to give him access to the cube. First,
I need to change the profile in the project, what is obviously. But second I
need to add this user in the database role via Analysis Manager, and this do
not make sence. It seams redundante work change the profile of a user in the
project and afterwards change it in the Analysis Manager. Is there another
way to do it, in a single step? Is it really neccessary to access to the cube
via Analysis Manager to add him to the database role?

Thanks
Paulo

There's a two step authentication that takes place when users access the
cube through Project Web Access. First they're authenticated by the Project
Data Service which then passes them on to analysis services where Windows
authentication takes over. So, they must have both permissions set. To work
around this, you can add a global group that contains all or most of the
users to whom you might want to grant access. Keep in mind that this gives
them ability to connect to the cube without having to access it through
Project Server. This is true for all users who are members of, or members of
groups that are member of the cube roles. Of course, this isn't a huge risk,
because most users aren't so sophisticated that they'll find their way to
the cube outside Project Server, and because most will only care about the
cube if they have access to the views you create in Project Server.
