Sorry if this is a duplicate question. Any one know the primary
differences
between the upsizing wizard and the SQL Server Migration Assistant? I
just
downloaded the new SSMA for Access here...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...B4-C914-4AC7-B2F3-D25FFF4E24FB&displaylang=en
A major difference is that tool is designed to work with sql server...and
not
have to have ms-access on your machine. So, if your a sql guy, you likely
not
know your way around ms-access, and thus you choose a set of tools that one
is familiar with.
So, don't even have to have ms-access to use the above tool.
The upsizing wizard is part of ms-access and is built in. The upsizing
wizard for example makes it very easy to simply export one table to sql
server
***AND*** then "link" that table to sql server. It will do all of these
steps of export + link in one export process.
The SSMA tools don't create those linked tables for
you, and that tools is really for moving (importing) data up to sql server.
So, those tools do nothing to the-access side of things and don't
modify your access side of things as all. So, that migration assistant does
not modify nor touch mdb (or accDB) file.
So, that tool is primarily for "pulling" data out of ms-access, but it not
going to create the linked tables for you or convert the application into a
access data project as the upsizing wizard can do for you.
