I'm working for a client who has data in several Access 2002 Databases.
They also like the functions available in Outlook 2002. I'm looking for
input on how to design an application that meets their needs. I'd like to
retain the relational qualitites of the tables in the databases while making
use of the Journaling funtions of Outlook. Should I program the whole thing
in Outlook, in Access, or some combination of the two?
I've done both, but my major experience is with Access. It's my opinion that
it's easier for Access to talk to Outlook/Exchange, than the other way
around. The Exchange event service is really delicate and quits seemingly
without reason about every 2 or 3 weeks. It's also non-relational and quite
limited. I'd use Access as the main app with whatever functionality you need
from Outlook. There are several demo apps on my website that will give you a
head start on coding:

The apps that are for Access 97 should convert just fine.
