Access2k file won't open in WinXP

Hi,
I have a file that states it's an Acces2000 format, that will not open on a
WindowsXP system. It will open fine in WIndows2000 though, very strange...

The file is for my place of employment and after troubleshooting it for
awhile, on the XP system that they called me to figure out the problem.

I tried it on 3 XP systems and it will never open the database fully.

It ends up stating that it can't find the Path, when that's where I
launching it from.

It takes awhile for it to come up with the message.

Anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks!

Hi Kelly,

I think I have experienced something similar once, but not sure if this
would apply to you. The database was huge. It could not be opened on a
WindowsXP system with Access 2002. This was true for both the owner of the
database, and on my PC, when he sent it to me. Holding down the shift key
while starting the database did not help. I then moved it to an older PC,
with Windows 2000 and Access 2000 (fully patched). This time, I was able to
open the database, although it took a significant amount of time to open. I
immediately disabled the Name Autocorrupt option, and then did a compact &
repair. Upon returning a copy of the database to my Office PC (WindowsXP with
Access 2002 at the time), I was then able to open it without any further
problems. So, if Name Autocorrupt is enabled, you might try disabling it. I
recommend that you do this on every JET database anyway.

Hi Tom,
The database isn't too big, about 3.5mb unsplit, but the Name Autocorrupt
option might be the problem. Let me see if that might be it (I'll have to
find where this option is though) and give that a try. I did do a comapct and
repair, but that didn't help in this situation. I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Hi Tom,

I was able to open the file on my home WinXP system with Access2003 after I
did the Compact an repair option. I also checked the Autocorrect option,
which was not checked. I'm glad you pointed that out to me though - Thank you.

I pretty certain that yesterday I did the compact repair in Access2000, but
it din't seem to work. Anyway, with the XP system and Access2000, running the
Compact/Repair worked.

Thanks for your Help!
