Access97 and Windows XP Pro

I'm sorry this is a bit long winded, but I don't want to
miss out anything important.

I have just got a new PC with XP Pro on it and am trying to
use my Office 97 suite. Everything seems to work fine
apart from Access97. When I try to run this I get a blank
Access screen with the standard menu bar across the top and
the Office Assistant saying "Welcome to Microsoft Access".
So far so good, but if I close Office Assistant and either
try to open an existing database or chose "Create a new
Database using Blank Database" from the selection box which
comes up next, then accept db1 as the file name and then
try to create a table with the Table Wizard, I get an error
message box which says "Microsoft Access has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience." There is more blurb about sending an error
report to Microsoft (which I have done with no result)and
the option to see what data the error report contains (lots
of it!) Clicking on either the Send or Don't Send buttons
then closes Access.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Office 97, but
this has not solved the problem.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Jim,

Try re-registering the file DAO360.dll, see method 1 in the following
article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;248790

If that does not work try installing the latest service pack for the
Microsoft JET Database Engine, see:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;172733

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

Hi Eric,

Re-registering worked - boy am I relieved. Thanks very
much for your input, and thanks to Chris Mills for his, as
a result of which I also re-registered DAO350.dll.
