Access97 and WinXP

Hi guys,

Im still having big problems with speed in A97 on WinXP that i cant seem to
get over. Ive had a look on the web and asked around and alot of ppl are
having similar problems.

By converting to AccessXP will this solve my speed problems? ie does AXP
cater WinXP any better? I think the problems are due to the network and the
extra security etc.,.. that XP has as opposed to Win98 and are wondering if
AXP better addresses this?

Also by converting to AXP will i start to encounter other problems? What are
the pros and cons of such a move?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes many people are having problems. However my Access Performance
FAQ page at http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/performancefaq.htm seems
to be taking care of about 99% of the problems.

No, A2002 is no better and actually somewhat worse in some respects
unless you've done the work arounds.

I have found a97 to run extremely well on winXP.

I would say that moving to accessXP will not change the performance issues
one bit.

Are you running a split db environment?

If yes, then I assume you have checked out Tony's page of things to try:

While most of the above list applies to a2000, the persistent connection
idea applies equally well to a97.

That simply means in your code to try keeping a table opened to the backend
database at all times. (so, in your start-up routine, try opening a table,
or simply open a form that is attached to a table to the backend).

Try the above idea first. The above should restore your performance to
equal, or even better then what you got on win98 boxes.

Hi Guys,

Yes im doing all of that and have been over tonys webpage a number of times,
most of it applies to a2000 but the things that apply to a97 ive checked and
have been doing for the last few years.

I dont have these problems on Win98 machines, this is driving me quite
insane!

Regards,
Richard

P.S. The problems i reported having in closing the FE database on WinXP are
still happening, the things you suggested there dont make any difference
tony :( , if i use it as a snapshot it does not create the ldb files.
