Accessing AOL email with Outlook 2000

I am trying to access my AOL email with Outlook 2000. I have verrified all
settings are correct using the AOL keyword: open mail access. Everything
seems to be correct, but I continue to get an error message when trying to
send/receive mail that states: "Could not fetch new headers in the inbox for
imap.aol.com. An unknown error has occurred. Please save any existing work
and restart the program."

AOL Live Support is of no help and I haven't been able to find anything on
the Microsoft website that seems to explain it. Any ideas?
