Accessing directory service

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Email Client: Exchange

When i try accessing the directory services, i get the following message after the process times out, "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."
My LDAP server is setup right, and i have set the maximum number of results to 100 from the default 1000, and i still get the error. What can i do to fix this, my exchange account is on a hosted environment.

If this is hosted Exchange environment I am preety hopefully that you are
trying to access the GAL over the internet. If yes then most of the times I
have seen that this is not possible as the related ports are not open on the
Active Directory to access GAL.. but if these ports are open then you need
the Name of the AD Server in the LDAP server field in the advance tab of
Entourage and that should help.. also try the option SSL for LDAP as they
are allowing external users to connect to their AD so for the security
reasons if they have SSL enabled.

You can also try this 3rd party tool http://www.xutils.com/owagalsearch/ to
access GAL from outside the network.

thanks,
Pawan
