My hard drive crashed containing an assortment of files including photos. The
hard drive was replaced and the files "recovered" on the new hard drive.
However ieven though I can see the files , when I try to open them, they do
not open showing the actual photos or even some word documents.
PLEASE HELP AS THESE PHOTOS ARE IRREPLACEABLE!!!

Nothing really to do with Office.

By crashed I assume you mean hard drive failed?
What 'exactly' happens when you try to open a word doc?
Do you still have the old hard drive?

PS Nothing on a PC is irreplaceable if you dont have a backup - which you
now may realise

Since apparently the only place the files actually existed is gone, so
are the files. All you see is the directory listing, this means the
"files are UNRECOVERABLE". Perhaps if the failed drive can still be had,
you may send it to a data recovery lab?
