Accessing MS Project files from a windows application

Assuming that it is possible to read/write from/to a MS Project file from a
windows application, I wonder if there are any components to ease such a
task? In the case of Excel, Word I think there are components that don't
require the corresponding application to be present. Is the same possible
with Project?
If not where can I find documentation and examples on how to do it? I assume
it can be done using COM.

If you don't want Project installed then you have to save all projects to a
database. If you just want to read data from .mpp files then useoledb, but
that needs Project installed on the PC running the code.

Otherwise read write using automation.
