Accessing remote database across the Internet

Currently, I have several workstations on the LAN running
an MS Access 97 application that has linked tables on the
MS Access 97 main database (same LAN).I want to provide
access to this MS Access database to several remote users,
who are not on my LAN, using direct Internet access.

I know Access 97 won't handle realtime updates and
creation of new records across the Internet (only oover
the LAN). Will Access 2002 perform this function ? If not,
has anyone else done this and what was needed to
accomplish this task ?
