Accidentally turned on function that prevents repeating input of any letter

Enabled some function while in Word that prevents me from
typing the same letter twice without pausing. This
function is working throughout office, including Internet
Explorer, Keeping me from even entering www without
pausing between each letter.

Be sure to check your repeat rate that is listed in your Control Panel
(Start > Control Panel in Windows XP) or Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Double click on Keyboard.

Assuming that you're using a relevant version of Windows (you didn't
mention the Windows version OR the Word version), you may have accidently
enabled FilterKeys. Go to Control Panel | Accessibility Options | Keyboard
and see if the FilterKeys option is checked. If so, uncheck it.
